Ancestry Corner by Judy Brooks, Professional Genealogist Scottish Clans Are you looking for your "clan"?  Your family name may well be what is called a "sept" of a clan or not even connected to a clan although a Scot.  Your family may well have been historically connected to a region rather than a clan chief.  The clan system is defunct but for those of us interested in the history of our ancestors and those Scots who are quite traditional, it is an important part of our history. But, you can find if you are connected to a clan.  My favorite site for finding this is www.scotclans.com  Enter either your clan or your surname under "what's my clan".   You can then connect to a clan home page which gives you a multitude of links to history, tartan, crest, etc..  If you click on "clan links" you might even find a genealogy or a clan genealogist to connect with.  For the registered clans I recommend you visit Electric Scotland where you can get a whole lot of history of the clan.  www.ElectricScotland.com Attend the Highland Games in Vista the fourth weekend of June and you just might find your clan amongst the clan tents.
