Lodging & Location​

The Summer School of Piping is hosted at the Army Navy Academy of Carlsbad. The Academy is an old-line prep school located on a private stretch of beach in Carlsbad.

Lodging: Two person dorms are the rule. Bedding is NOT included in the room & board fee but IS available at an additional cost of $30 for the week.
Students are encouraged to bring their own bedding and towels. Many rooms have beds with upper bunks over desks. Please let us know when registering (under comments) if you have any physical limitations.

Meals: Three buffet meals per day are provided, allowing students to choose foods that meet their preferred diet requirements.

Classrooms: There are plenty of classrooms and a large auditorium.

Campus Rules: It is a nonsmoking, nonalcoholic beverage campus. However, adult smokers may can step off the grounds onto one of the surrounding streets.

Leisure: The academy has a private beach access that will be available to students. The times will be specified and the private access is manned by lifeguards. A public access is also available to students over 18, a short distance from the campus. This access is not manned by lifeguards and is at the students own risk. Minors under 18 will not be allowed to use this access.

Getting to the School

The Academy is just off Interstate 5 about 45 miles north of San Diego International Airport or about 75 miles South of Los Angeles.

Exit on Carlsbad Village Drive and head west toward the ocean. (This will be a left turn if you are coming North on I-5).

Go straight down Carlsbad Village drive until you reach Carlsbad Blvd. This is a main intersection along the coast – a landmark to look for is a big Victorian Mansion (Neiman’s Restaurant) on your right.

Turn right at this redlight and continue down Carlsbad Blvd about 1/4 mile. (3 blocks)

The Army-Navy Academy entrance is on the left at 2605 Carlsbad Blvd.

Attractions

Carlsbad is a small resort town offering several miles of state beach with safe swimming and surfing. If you bring your family, they can drive to major attractions in no more than two hours. Attractions are listed below.
